Our Founder

Nana Abena Gyamfua Ababio — Founder, Élevé HealthWatch and Healthy Futures Ghana Initiative.

A Personal Mission
Nana’s journey is deeply personal. She lost her father to prostate cancer in Ghana and her sister to stroke in the UK. These experiences ignited her determination to change the story for others and to bring preventive healthcare to the communities that shaped her early life.

Expertise with Global Impact
With over 15 years of leadership in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), Nana blends clinical expertise with strategic vision. She studied Medical Biochemistry at Queen Mary University of London, trained as a fellow at Barts Health NHS Trust, and is currently pursuing an Executive MBA in Health at University College London (UCL).

Her career includes senior leadership roles within NHS England, where she led large-scale programmes, drove transformation, and championed equity in healthcare delivery. Her work bridges science, strategy, and compassion creating impact that transcends borders. She has returned to her roots not only with purpose, but with the skills and influence to build sustainable health systems and drive life-saving community interventions.

Leading Through Crisis: COVID-19
During the height of the pandemic, Nana directed a multi-million-pound programme to expand London’s COVID-19 testing capacity. She mobilised teams, deployed equipment, and built infrastructure at speed to meet an unprecedented public health emergency. The result: equitable access to testing across communities and lives saved at a moment of global crisis. Her leadership reflected resilience, precision, and compassion under pressure.

Preventing Silent Killers: AAA Screening
In London, Nana directed the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme, one of the UK’s most impactful preventive health initiatives. Each year, more than 10,000 men were screened. Those identified at risk received early intervention through life-saving stent procedures preventing aneurysm rupture, which is often fatal. Under her direction, the programme prevented over 80 premature deaths annually, protecting families and proving the power of early detection.

Hospital at Home: Care with Comfort
Nana also spearheaded the Hospital at Home initiative, delivering hospital-level treatment into the comfort of patients’ homes. This model reduced unnecessary admissions, cut infection risks, and improved recovery outcomes, while preserving dignity by allowing people to heal in familiar surroundings. It showed that healthcare can be both efficient and deeply human.

Bringing It Back Home: Ghana
Through Élevé HealthWatch and the Healthy Futures Ghana Initiative, Nana is now bringing proven models of care back to Ghana. Her focus is on closing the gaps in screening, diagnosis, and treatment, while building sustainable, community-based systems that last.

Giving Back, Creating Healthy Futures
Her Giving Back Strategy extends beyond immediate care. By equipping underserved areas with tools, training, and best-practice systems, Nana is creating a foundation for prevention, stronger health outcomes, and healthier futures for generations to come.

Nana was awarded the Future Impact Scholar on the Executive MBA health programme at UCL
